Pusha T addresses Travis Scott on new song, interview

In anticipation for their new album Let God Sort ‘Em Out, the Clipse released a new song and video called “So Be It”. The Virginia duo exchange scathing bars over ominous production by Pharrell. What got a lot of attention was the last verse of the song, where Pusha T called out Travis Scott.

“You cried in front of me, you died in front of me
Calabasas took your bitch and your pride in front of me
Heard Utopia had moved right up the street
And her lip gloss was poppin’, she ain’t need you to eat
The ‘net gon’ call it the way that they see it
But I got the video, I can share and A.E. it”

Initially, some thought the diss was about Kanye West, but Pusha T confirmed it to be about Scott.

In an interview with GQ, Pusha T explained that his issues with Scott came from a sense of disloyalty. He spoke on a studio session in which Travis Scott previewed “Meltdown” for he and Pharrell without Drake’s verse. When the song was released, Drake’s verse took shots at both Pusha and Pharrell.

In another interview with Ebro, Pusha T continued to elaborate on the incident, saying, “I just thought it was disrespectful, like we don’t even want you here. … And I personally don’t like rappers who don’t rap. Like I don’t wanna hear that, I don’t want it. … He does this numerous times, he’ll do it with his mentor Ye, you know what I’m saying. He was even instrumental in the whole beef now, the Like That verse, egging that on. I don’t want nobody who don’t rap to egg nothing on. You don’t rap. Stay out of rapper’s business.”

Let God Sort ‘Em Out from the Clipse drops on July 11. “So Be It” is available on YouTube.
