The Virginia rap duo reunites for their first project since 2009.
In the near two decades since their last project, Til the Casket Drops, a lot had changed with Clipse. Pusha T signed with G.O.O.D Music and eventually became the label’s president, releasing four solo albums. Malice rebranded himself as No Malice and focused on making Christian hip-hop. The two didn’t reunite until 2019, on Kanye West’s “Use this Gospel”.
In 2024, the duo announced they would be working on a new album. The album title was announced to be Let God Sort ‘Em Out and the following year the singles “Ace Trumpets” and “So Be It” were released.
Produced entirely by longtime collaborator Pharrell Williams, Let God Sort ‘Em Out opens with the heart wrenching “Birds Don’t Sing”, a tribute to their late parents. During their Tiny Desk performance, Pusha T revealed that his verse was based on his last conversation with their mother, and Malice stated his verse was based on his last conversation with their father. The following track, “Chains & Whips” features a highly anticipated verse from Kendrick Lamar. All three rappers touch on the current status of rap in this track. On “M.T.B.T.T.F” (Mike Tyson Blow to the Face) the duo bring hypnotic verses to an acapella before a hard-hitting piano kicks in.
From a lyrical standpoint, Let God Sort ‘Em Out shows that despite their absence, Pusha T and Malice haven’t missed a step. While most of the album follows the familiar themes of drug dealing rap, it comes delivered in a more introspective and detailed way. Every feature on the album is exceptional as well, with appearances from Tyler the Creator, Stove God Cooks, Nas among others.
